Life’s Trials That Made You Better – 52 Lists (Week 27)

I apologize. I’ve been putting off posting. Vacation and just general summer things have had me all over the place with trying to get things done. But hey, that just goes right along with the theme of this list from 52 Lists. Life’s trials that made you better.

It’s not secret that life throws you many twists and turns as you head down a seemingly straight road. Things don’t work out as planned and one of two things happen. Either you become a better person or a bitter person. But today’s post focuses on the ones that make you better.

Life's Trials That Made You Better

  • Growing up without my dad. I still don’t know him. My last memories of him are pretty bad. And to be completely honest, it took a lot from me as a kid and it took me a long time to work past it. I’ve been fortunate with the guidance of my amazing mother to become my own person and find someone to make a great family with.
  • High School. Yep, I’m putting this as one big ordeal. It started as a fun new social and musical challenge. It progressed into amazing friendships which hit like a ton of bricks when things went sour my junior year. Although it took me a long time to rebuild and deal with that, I think out of that ordeal I came through to be a better person.
  • Leaving home for college. This might not seem like a big deal, but to me it was huge. All my life I dreamed of moving away from my home. (We’ll ignore how much I’d love to move back there now, lol.) And college was my big chance. I took it and went to a college pretty far from home. The first semester especially was very difficult. But without that experience, I would not have made it to where I am today and would not be comfortable living anywhere but my hometown. And for that I am grateful because I’ve experienced some other really cool places in the world.
  • Being a mom. This is constant. It’s every day. Just when I think I’ve got things figured out, a cute little four year old decides to mix it up on me and I’m back at square one. (All of you veteran moms or grandmas are laughing at this right now, but you know it’s very true!) Each day I’m learning and each day I’m just trying to get through and be the best mom I can be for my kiddo.
